Summary

'Key in the lock all right, sir。 On the inside。 Mr Ackroyd must have locked himself in,'

Poor Roger Ackroyd。 He knew that the woman he loved had been harbouring a guilty secret - she poisoned her first husband。 And yesterday she killed herself。

But guilty secrets rarely stay secret。 Who had been blackmailing her before her death? Had it really driven her to suicide? And would it all be revealed in the letter that arrived in the evening post? Sadly Roger Ackroyd wasn't going to live long enough to find out。。。

What a shocking book。 I was very nervous to start reading these kind of books because I thought I wont be interested。 ‏I’ve never read mystery/crime novels, even though this one in particular has been in my bookshelf for years。 The plot is very very exciting, whenever I picked the book it was very hard putting it down。 The character development it’s astonishing, and very complex。 I jokingly dropped the name of the person who committed the crime, sarcastically because i was at loss, I didn’t thin What a shocking book。 I was very nervous to start reading these kind of books because I thought I wont be interested。 ‏I’ve never read mystery/crime novels, even though this one in particular has been in my bookshelf for years。 The plot is very very exciting, whenever I picked the book it was very hard putting it down。 The character development it’s astonishing, and very complex。 I jokingly dropped the name of the person who committed the crime, sarcastically because i was at loss, I didn’t think that this person in particular would be the person who did all of this。 It is crazy good。It is crazy to think that one person wrote all those remarkable characters。 I really enjoyed reading this one, and I think I will pick up more books by this amazing author。 Something great about this book as I read it with someone special and that made it extra interesting to read and discuss the book in our mini book club。 。。。more

Not to mention this considered as one of the best Poirot mystery but unfortunately it didn't stand out for me! The story only peaks up after Poirot appears, but even after that story felt stretched! That being said it's my first poirot mystery, i till need to read more of them but it was definitely not upto the mark as compared to other Christie's standalones! The first book which gave Agatha Christie a global recognition and quiet rightly so! Disconcerting despite its seemingly straightforward turn of events only to reveal a shocking finale。

Once again bored rich British folks ruin Hercule’s attempt at respite and peace。 Thankfully he’s an unrelenting smartass that once again, spoiler, figures it all out。 Probably my favorite HP novel

The Murder of Roger Ackroyd didn’t disappoint! I saw an Agatha Christie documentary a few months ago that said the twist in this novel fundamentally changed detective fiction forever, so I was on the lookout for a twist — and still missed it。 This was my first Poirot, but it won’t be my last。

Written in the late 1920's, this novel is one of the first starring M。 Poirot。 In the beginning, a woman is dead from a drug overdose and than a man is murdered in the same town。 Are these two incidents related? Hugh Fraser, Hastings from the Poirot mystery series, reads this version of Agatha Christie's rule-breaking novel。 I love his voice and think of the show fondly when I hear him reading the stories。 He is an engaging reader; one one who intimately knows the works and one who makes it easy to listen to the story。Told in the first person by a small-town doctor, this story paints a vivid picture of village life。 The people, the movements, and, of course, the gossip。 Dr。 Sheppard leads us through wha Hugh Fraser, Hastings from the Poirot mystery series, reads this version of Agatha Christie's rule-breaking novel。 I love his voice and think of the show fondly when I hear him reading the stories。 He is an engaging reader; one one who intimately knows the works and one who makes it easy to listen to the story。Told in the first person by a small-town doctor, this story paints a vivid picture of village life。 The people, the movements, and, of course, the gossip。 Dr。 Sheppard leads us through what happens when the richest man in town is found murdered, shortly after he received a letter exposing the name of a blackmailer。 We go through the entire investigation even as Hercule Poirot is brought in (even though he is self-proclaimed to have retired from solving mysteries。)For the ending alone, the book is well-deserved to be on many lists of "Best Crime Books"。 I would not recommend the reread though because knowing the end takes some enjoyment out of the story。 。。。more

Upon the suggestion from my sister, I dove head first into this brilliant mystery which also happened to be my first Agatha Christie novel (gasp!) Exceptionally narrated by actor and Poirot sidekick Hugh Fraser, this fast paced, fun whodunit was the perfect starting point。

Oh。 My。 Goodness。 Twists! Turns! Not just simply a “who done it” but so much more! Great character building, not as intricate as Murder on the Orient Express but just as detailed。 You just need to know what to look for。 After finishing it I want to go back and start again to see what I missed。 The best of her novels I’ve read so far。

Agatha Christie has always been a go-to author in my family。 Hercule And Jane have been two characters cherished within my family。 This one stood out to me because of the interesting perspective difference coming from Dr。 Sheppard throughout the entirety of the book but also the highlight again of Hercule and his Belgian dandified character that always brings intelligence and kindness and makes you smile throughout with his cleverness and brevity with people。 This ending is not what I expected a Agatha Christie has always been a go-to author in my family。 Hercule And Jane have been two characters cherished within my family。 This one stood out to me because of the interesting perspective difference coming from Dr。 Sheppard throughout the entirety of the book but also the highlight again of Hercule and his Belgian dandified character that always brings intelligence and kindness and makes you smile throughout with his cleverness and brevity with people。 This ending is not what I expected as the story keeps you hooked on details that create a certain train of thought and I recommend on reading this book to see if you figure it out before turning the final pages。 。。。more
